After breakfast, set out on your journey towards Koforidua in Ghana's Eastern Region.  Enjoy the scenic drive through the lush landscapes of the Eastern Region, soaking in the beauty of Ghana's countryside along the way.

Your first stop is a chance to meet and greet the Chiefs and Elders of Nyame Bekyere at the Nyame Bekyere Community Center, a beacon of hope and empowerment for the local community established by Diallo Sumbry - our AAFR Travel Director. Engage with Diallo and other community members as you learn about the center's initiatives and programs.  You will also have an opportunity to donate school supplies.

After touring the local school and community center, we will take a short walk through the local community to our home and cultural house where you will participate in a cultural renaming ceremony and receive ancestral blessings.

After the renaming ceremony, we will indulge in a traditional Ghanaian home-cooked meal.  Then enjoy a performance by a local African Dance and Drum troupe. We hope you have your dancing shoes on.

Rise with the dawn, have breakfast, and set out for an early morning trip to Kumasi, the bustling capital of the Ashanti Region. We'll be catching a domestic flight vs. the 4 hour drive.

Upon arrival in Kumasi, embark on a scenic drive to Bonwire, renowned for its traditional Kente weaving. Marvel at the intricate patterns and vibrant colors of this iconic Ghanaian fabric as you visit local workshops and witness skilled artisans at work. Engage with weavers to learn about the history, symbolism, and significance of Kente in Ashanti culture.

Continue your journey to Ntonso, a nearby village celebrated for its Adinkra cloth production. Discover the ancient art of Adinkra stamping, where symbols rich in meaning are hand-printed onto fabric using natural dyes. Participate in a hands-on workshop, designing your own Adinkra cloth and gaining insight into the cultural heritage and spiritual beliefs behind these symbolic motifs.

We then make a stop at Manhyia Palace, the official residence of the Asantehene (king) of the Ashanti Kingdom. Step back in time as you journey through the palace's regal halls, adorned with artifacts, royal regalia, and historical memorabilia that offer insight into the rich history and traditions of the Ashanti people.

End the day at the Kumasi Cultural Center, a vibrant hub of arts, crafts, and performances that celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Ashanti Region.

We then return to Accra where you can have dinner on your own or at the hotel.

Begin your day setting out on a scenic drive towards Ghana's Central Region. This will be a 3 hour trip and depart early morning by 6 am.

Arrive at Assin Manso, a historically significant site that served as a crucial transit point during the transatlantic slave trade. Pay homage to the memory of enslaved Africans as you visit the Assin Manso Slave River, where captives were bathed and branded before being auctioned off to European slave traders. Reflect on the solemnity of this place, honoring the resilience and courage of those who endured unimaginable hardships. Explore the onsite museum and memorial, which provide insight into the tragic legacy of the slave trade and the enduring spirit of liberation and remembrance.

The next stop is Cape Coast Dungeon, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most infamous slave forts in West Africa. Built by the Swedish in the 17th century and later expanded by the British, the dungeon served as a major trading post for enslaved Africans bound for the New World.

This is a site where incalculable human violations occurred, however, The Adinkra Group - along with its guides - seeks to see this pilgrimage as one that focuses on our resilience and honors our ancestors' tenacity to survive despite all obstacles. 

After your trip, you will have a free evening to reflect on and process the last two days' journeys.

Today you'll have a cooking class at Crescendo Foods - the first shared-space kitchen in West Africa! Established by a Black American food scientist, Crescendo Foods has become a valued gathering and learning space for diasporans and natives, alike.

You'll be instructed by a trained Ghanaian chef to prepare your first Ghanaian meal from start to finish.  At the end of the class, you'll have lunch and converse about Ghana's food diversity based on the various ethnic groups.

After breakfast we will head east for about 1.5 - 2 hours to the beautiful Aqua Safari in Ada to spend the day.  Aqua Safari is giving pure vacation vibes. You can relax in the cabana next to the pool, take a cruise around the lake, go horseback riding, play games, jet ski or just chill. Aqua Safari has an incredible Lunch buffet laid out for you.

After spending the day in Ada, we will return back to Accra.

Farewell!

This is your final day in Ghana.

After a relaxed breakfast, you will check out of your hotel and have an opportunity to do some last-minute shopping before your farewell lunch and transit to the airport.
